mission

::mission::

Trying the doors.

Paul, the great missionary urges his friends to:

"… pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ…" (Colossians 4:3)

But what is an "open door"? How do we know if a door is "open"? Do we watch a door and see if it suddenly opens? Do we wait until the door approaches us? Do we stand in front of the door and say "open sesame"?

An open door is an open heart, someone who is ready and receptive to the gospel. It is a heart unlocked to the glories of Christ.

The only way I know of to find out if a door is locked or not is to reach out and try the knob. If it opens, walk in! If it is locked, try again later. We can't assume a person is receptive or not until we "try the knob".

If we have practiced "Listen, listen, love, love", we can find out where a person is spiritually. Sometimes I'll ask "What is your spiritual background?" Questions like that give me a place to start. But we have to ask them!

So consider the "doors" around you (friends, neighbors, co-workers). Are they "open" or "closed"? There is only one way to find out!
