meditation: not just for gurus

Though meditation may sound like a "zen-thing", it really is a core spiritual discipline. Biblical meditation is where the other personal disciplines come together: prayer, Bible reading, fasting, worship, etc... As we meditate on the Word the Lord leads us into a deeper understanding of His Word, ourselves, and most inportantly, Himself. But we have to interact with the text and not just gloss over it. Let me suggest the S.P.A.C.E. method of "interviewing" the text. As you read, look for...

Sins to confess
Promises to claim
Actions to avoid
Commandments to keep
Examples to follow

Take time to record your thoughts in a journal. A slow-paced contemplative interaction with the scriptures will lead into a deeper conversation with God. Try these or other questions as you read. And may God grant you stability, refreshment, fruitfulness, and prosperity (Ps. 1:3)!
